After playing electric bass and guitar professionally for more years than he's willing to admit, Robert began studying classical guitar in November 2008. Since then, he has completed the Classical Guitar program at PCC under the direction of Stephen F. Jones, and has also studied privately under Sean Peyman Samimi.
Prior to beginning classical guitar studies, Robert was a veteran of the Los Angeles rock scene, where he played electric bass and/or guitar for such bands as Defiance, Mrs Beasley and the Acid Freaks, Surfy the Bug, The Windows (prog rock!) Trax (LA metal!) Audiogram (more prog rock!) Goodboy, Rope, Death Crow and the Big Decision, Pigeons from Hell, B24III, Nod, Mojo Rib, Blowpop, and Elevated Five.
For as long as clasical guitar has been a field of study, students of that instrument have played Carcassi's 25 melodic studies (or etudes) and Giuliani's 120 exercises for the right hand. Robert Oriol and Stephen Jones have teamed up to modernize these standards. There are countless editions of these two works in circulation. The newly realized
Black Page Music versions were created for use as classroom textbooks at Pasadena City College, where Stephen teaches classical guitar technique.
